A.G. Baillie Elementary School is a large, attractive, modern school that provides its 531 students with a caring, nurturing atmosphere for all. We offer a French Immersion classes for grade four, five and six. Our children enjoy a positive and challenging school environment and would love to have your students come and share this with us.
Our school has been renovated and modernized to meet the needs of our growing community. We have 531 students ranging from grade primary to grade six. Our staff consists of 28 Teachers, 3 Teacher-assistants, 1 Part-time Librarian, 1 Principal, 1 Vice-principal and 1 Secretary for the school term 2001-2002. We have a fully equipped Music Room, Gymnasium, Cafeteria, Library and Computer Room. A.G. Baillie School is located on the “West Side” of New Glasgow and people come from around the county to walk on the “Sampson Trail”, a beautiful walking path that goes from New Glasgow to Stellarton following the scenic East River. In the summer/fall months many boats are moored at the docks along the trail. New Glasgow is located in Northern Nova Scotia and is just 5 minutes away from the beautiful Melmerby beach. New Glasgow borders with the Towns of Trenton, Westville and Stellarton. We are approximately 40 minutes away from Truro. Halifax, the Capital of Nova Scotia, is just about and hour and a half drive away. Prince Edward Island, with it’s famous beaches and of course “Anne of Green Gables” is just an hour ferry ride from the Caribou ferry (a fifteen minute drive).
Our school has a great deal to offer students with the Beginner Band, Intermediate Band, Violin lessons, Chorus group, Grammar School Hockey, Girl’s & Boy’s Basketball Teams & Drama group. Our Drama Group puts on a spring play and our grade five students produce a school paper. We have Student Advisory Council Representatives from every grade level, a Spring Fling held each year and many other cultural entertainment groups brought in throughout the school year.
Less than 5% of our students are of various ethnic cultures. Our students have recently welcomed a new family from Pakistan. The students here at A.G. Baillie have enjoyed learning about their country and traditions and have in turn helped the new children learn the English language. We have been very fortunate in having a retired couple volunteer to come to the school to help out by giving one-to-one support to our new students.
Sincerely,
Fred Jeffery
