Principal, Maitland District Elementary Chignecto-Central Regional School BoardMaitland District Elementary is a small elementary school situated in the heart of a designated Heritage Village in rural Nova Scotia.
It overlooks the beautiful Minas Basin of Nova Scotia. Eagle watching, water rafting, touring museums, visiting parks, viewing the world's highest recorded tides are just a few highlights of our area.
Maitland is thirty minutes from Truro, Nova Scotia and one hour from the city of Halifax.
These sites also provide many learning opportunities. Our school is highly respected for its' positive, nurturing learning atmosphere.
Our school is home to 75 students who travel by bus from five neighboring communities. Our partnership includes a teaching principal, four other classroom teachers, a music teacher, a physical education teacher, a secretary and a custodian.
All work very closely together to make Maitland District a successful learning opportunity. We have a Learning Center which provides program support. The Learning Center and each classroom have access to computers. We take great pride in teaching the Nova Scotia curriculum with literacy being a high priority.
The small school enables a low student-teacher ratio which provides more opportunity for the students to receive one to one instruction. Our music program includes ukelele, recorder and choir. There are two musical productions each year. We offer French classes to Grade 3-6. We enjoy sports and provide instruction and opportunity for volleyball, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, skipping, floor hockey and exercise.
A healthy lifestyle is encouraged. Sportsmanship is a highlighted aspect of the program. Families are invited to participate in many special activities. These may include literacy evenings, multicultural fairs, math and science evenings, art appreciation and more.
The school is always thinking about and planning special events for all to enjoy. These are always well attended. Our community is well known as a friendly, charming village with much to offer. We would enjoy the opportunity to celebrate learning together.
Sincerely,
