Welcome to Scotsburn Elementary School. We are a small school in rural Nova Scotia, with all of the advantages of both being small and being rural.

Scotsburn Elementary was opened in December of 1989, so we are a relatively young school. However, smaller and older schools - now closed down * served this part of Nova Scotia for many years before this new and handsome facility was constructed.

We have a beautiful school, extremely well equipped, and staffed with wonderful teachers and other support staff. There are approximately 115 children in the school, arranged as follows:
Primary: Mrs. Hardie
Lower Elementary Multi-Age H: Mrs. Henderson
Lower Elementary Multi-Age L: Mrs. Lavers
Grade 4: Mrs. Graham
Grade 5: Mrs. Martin and Mr. Punke
Resource: Mrs. Martin
Music: Mrs. Craig
Physical Education: Mr. Corbin

In addition to the regular classrooms, the school has: Cafeteria, Gymnasium, Library, Music Room, Art Room, Computer Lab and CAP site and two Common Rooms. Outside the building there is a large and well-kept playing area for the children: a playground area plus a soccer/baseball field.

Our program actively involves students in their own learning. We take very seriously our motto: "Respect, Responsibility and Love of Learning." Also, there are many special events, such as visits from guest performers and speakers, field trips, and monthly assemblies, many of which are led by the students and feature their work.

In addition, we have an active after-school hours Community School program.

"Lucky" is our school rabbit. He lives in the Primary classroom, but roams the school and is beloved by all.

Scotsburn, as a community, is well situated in Pictou County. Access to local towns, especially the Shiretown of Pictou, is easy and only minutes away. Also, a double highway links the area to such major centers as New Glasgow, Truro and Halifax.
